What exactly is Mansionization?  McMansions?  Starter Castles?

There are many different ways of putting this.....here are a few that have been found on the
Internet, from Los Angeles/Orange Counties to all the way across the country.  Do a web
search for yourself, using any of the above terms....you will see the wide spread problem.

With real estate prices at an all-time high little vacant property is left to develop, builders are
increasingly buying up older homes simply for the land.  They demolish the old home and
build larger homes with the square footage (maximum allowed by law) and amenities that
get top dollar.  Homes are being build larger than necessary and are overshadowing those
around them, denying neighbors of privacy, natural light and air, quality of life and
neighborhood character.
Mansionization is a long-term trend and we need to prepare for, this is only the
beginning.

We want to find the best solutions for the problem.  Whether it be changing city codes or
adopting new ones we can make a difference. Your input counts!!!

In the City of Fullerton General Plan under Land Use Issues Section 3.2.2 it states the
following:

Development which occurs in established areas as existing uses recycle and individual
vacant lots develop could significantly impact existing residential neighborhoods,
commercial districts, and other areas of the City. The tendency is often to replace older
uses and buildings with more intensive development. Of particular concern is the
preservation of the existing character of the Downtown, a number of residential
neighborhoods, and the economic growth of the Southeastern Industrial Area:

Residential North (of Chapman Avenue) — The residential areas north of Chapman
Avenue are typified by mature neighborhoods made up of single-family detached
homes. The main issue here is the impact of new construction and home renovations
that are out of scale, architecturally incompatible, or otherwise inconsistent with the
surrounding neighborhoods. The problem has been termed “mansionization.”
